2018 is off to a good start, or so it seems at least when it comes to crafting and completing projects.
I am so happy with the way Old Blu turned out. He is so cute, and reminds me a lot of a Russian bear. He has a cousin Old Ned, that is red and green, that I will attempt next.

Old Blu Mini Bear
Since I had a relative amount of the grey lambswool left after completing my grey sweater, I decided to use it up and knitted a hooded scarf with it. A quick and easy knit, and ready for blocking.

Hooded Scarf
January was a very peaceful month at the office, and I could sit and knit quietly in the gardens and enjoy the shade of the big trees and warm summer days. It was just perfect to finish this mini Shawl already. It needs to be blocked, in order to open the leaves around the bottom edges. I have knitted this before, and loved it. Always a good pattern to knit again.
When I received yarn from my Stitching Santa buddy that she got while visiting New Zealand, I immediately loved it. It was gorgeous grey and a dusty dark pink colour. Not the usual blues I always seem to buy and love, and I loved that she opted for something different to send. Of course, I could not put it away and kept it around. Now that I finished these two projects, it was just the right time to cast on this pretty yarn. I am starting a cowl for myself for the winter, which is still a few months away, and it will be ready well in time.
Something that I have been interested in learning and teaching myself is Tunisian Crochet. Yes, after all these years, I have never learned this craft. But it has been on my mind, and I had a book on my “list” of books I want to get. I was very happy when my daughter gifted me the book, so I can get started. This will be new to me, and I really look forward to giving it a go.

And so that is January already. 🙂 A good month indeed.
And Miekie says a happy hello to all as well, she is still enjoying being the spoiled little furry baby she is.

Miekie
Your bear is gorgeous!! You did a fantastic job.
🙂 Thank you so much. xx
I love your teddy bear and hooded scarf and that shawl is beautiful. Good to hear that you are having a good month so far.
Thank you so much. 🙂
It was a good month indeed with much happening, but at a very moderate pace. I guess it wont last, but I try to make the most of it while I still can.
Enjoy the new week and happy crafting. 🙂
you have been a busy bee. 🙂 I love the bear and the shawl. the cowl will be a cozy addition to your wardrobe, too. And I can’t wait to hear about Tunisian Crochet. I also have never tried it.
Thank you so much.
I have been reading up on Tunisian crochet, and watching Youtube as well. This weekend I got some hooks and yarn to start a few squares to get myself going. 🙂
Enjoy the new week and happy crafting.
I can’t wait to hear how it goes and see your efforts on the blog. You have a good week too.
You have been busy and have had a very successful January. The bear is so adorable. He looks so soft and cuddly. I love the shawl. It will be perfect for chilly days. The hooded scarf looks perfect! I haven’t thought about knitting something like that. I have heard of Tunisian Crochet, but that is about it. I look forward to seeing what it is and how you like it. Miekie looks so sweet and relaxed. He reminds me of my dog I had when I was a kid. Enjoy your summer weekend and get lots of crafting in 🙂
Thank you. I always love it when I can finish a bear, or any project.
Yes, soon we should be getting cooler weather, and I can enjoy wearing all these pretty knits again. 🙂 Summer has been extreme so far, very hot and dry.
I got some yarn and hooks for Tunisian crochet on the weekend, and have been reading and also watching Youtube. I should be able to make some test squares soon. 🙂
Hope you had a good weekend, and it was a bit warmer than the normal cold days. 🙂
Happy crafting in the new week.
That bear is delightful. You take beautiful photographs too which really impresses me! I taught myself to do Tunisian Crochet back when it was still called Railway Knitting and love it – though I haven’t picked up that hook for a long time now. It’s pretty straight forward and I love the woven look it gives to the fabric you create. I last made a vest that gets a lot of comments whenever I wear it. Your pup is also gorgeous and Siddy says ‘hullo’ back 🙂
Thank you. I do try and would really like to take grand photos, I think I am slowly improving as I go.
I have never heard of it being called Railway knitting, but it does make perfect sense. I got some yarn and hooks on the weekend to start practicing, I have been reading the book and watching Youtube. 🙂
I think it will be a great craft to master as well.
Hello back to Siddy from Miekie. 🙂 xx
Such a lovely crafty post and a delight to read. Miekle is adorable.
Thank you, it is always nice to hear from those that read my posts.
Hope you had a good weekend. 🙂
What a flying start to the year…That bear is just charming. Enjoy your weekend. xx
Thank you. He is just to sweet, now I just need to make his cousin too. 🙂
Hope you enjoyed your weekend too. xx
Lovely makes. Especially Old Blu 🙂 The yarn from your secret Santa is beautiful. Mollie sent me some pinky-orange, but I can’t quite work out what to knit with it. Lovely to see Mieke, give her a hug from me. xx
Thank you. I am loving the yarn I got, different from my usual stash, and it is knitting up so lovely.
Miekie is having a good summer although I dont think she loves the heat to much. We both prefer to cuddle. 🙂
Hugs back to you all. xx
Bless her, It’s no fun in the heat wearing a fur coat 😦 xx
Your bear is beautiful such a lovely colour ,you can see Mikie is smiling 🐕😀🐶
🙂 Thank you. I loved the colour of the bear the moment I saw it. Such nice fabric for a bear.
lol. Yes Miekie is very spoiled and loves to just take over the bed in the mornings when I try and get up for the day.
Oh my gosh, Old Blu is sooooooo adoreable!
🙂 Thank you. xx
Ah, sweet little Miekie! I, too, have long admired the delights of Tunisian crochet but have never got around to learning the craft, so I will follow your progress with interest:)
🙂 Thank you. I now have a few hooks and yarn to start to practice. Keeping my fingers crossed.
The bear is beautiful and I look forward to finding out about Tunisian crochet (I have yet to learn ‘normal’ crochet!). Aren’t all dogs just spoilt fur babies – I know mine is!!
Thank you. 🙂 I do enjoy making these bears. They are fun to make.
I will be able to practice Tunisian Crochet soon, I now have hooks and scrap yarn. Keeping my fingers crossed. It looks pretty different from normal Crochet, so I hope for the best. 🙂
I know, they are spoiled aren’t they. Glad to see you spoil yours too, I know I do.
You have done so much this month! The bear is just too cute and I love that hood/scarf, it’s so pretty! Give a cuddle to Miekie for me, she is just too adorable 😊
Thank you, it was a crafty month indeed. Miekie says thank you for the cuddles, she is always happy to cuddle. 🙂
