As I took Friday off from work, I had a lovely long weekend ahead of me, with lots of crafting time and crafty shopping planned as well.
Of course, it is still rainy season here, and it rained especially hard on Thursday when I left for my “long weekend”. Flooded roads, again, and this time on the freeway, just around the corner from my neighborhood. All 4 lanes under water, and the emergency lane too. I felt like I was about to cross a river, in my car, which is not very high off the road surface. But I managed to get through and not stall either.

Johannesburg Rain
It rained a bit on Friday, just as I arrived at the annual Hobby X expo. I enjoy the Hobby X, so much to see and do and get and enjoy.
Firstly I had a coffee with my sister, and we both dried out, as our shoes and pants were pretty damp. Then we got around to the shopping. My sister spoiled me by getting me a new piece of fur for a bear. This is my favourite type of fur, the sparse and scruffy looking type. Now I can re-cut the pieces for a bear I cut a while ago, but did not really like the fur to much. I decided I could do with a few new scissors while I am there, and these two went home with me. Super light and comfy to use, and nice and sharp.

Hobby X Shopping
I was looking for some pretty ceramic inserts, and even though these were a bit expensive, the quality is so good, and the glaze so smooth and clear, I got a few pretty pieces that I have some small projects in mind for already. And of course, some extra rolls of Washi Tape.
I did not plan on buying any yarns, as I have enough for a bit of knitting, but the African Expressions skein was just to pretty to not take home. I also came across this stunning ball of yarn from Turkey and the colours in it attracted me immediately. It is soft and warm, and I am looking forward to knitting it up.
Mostly the attraction for me, is the international magazines I can get at a mere fraction of the normal price. I love Mollie Makes, and splash out each time to get as many copies as they have. This year I came home with a whole stack, and I am so looking forward to long cool Fall days to enjoy these.

And then I even got around to getting out the sewing machine and overlocker and some of my fabrics. I made some projects bags and a carry bag for my I Pad. I had embroidered a small cloth, that I intended for a cushion, but now it is a little I Pad bag. Some of the baggies still need zippers or closing cord, and I will do those as soon as I visit my LYS for a few supplies.
A great crafty weekend all round.
Sounds like a great weekend, I love the bear fur and am looking forward to seeing what you make xx
Hi, thank you. I plan to cut the bear fur soon, as I really want to make this bear. She is so cute, and I think this fur will be perfect. 🙂
It sounds like a wonderful weekend! The yarn you got is beautiful.
I have never seen Mollie Makes magazine. Now I feel like I’m missing out on something great. I’ll watch for it:)
I did indeed have a great time, and I love this yarn, it is a local yarn and is super soft. 🙂 just could not resist getting it.
The magazine is from the UK, and imported here in SA. A bit expensive, that is why I splash out and buy a year’s back issues when I get the chance. Makes it worth it, even if late. It is a lovely magazine, with so many super cute ideas. I think you will love it just as much.
Enjoy the rest of the week.
Sounds like you had a nice crafty and shopping weekend. I love all the new things you picked up. The yarns look yummy! Especially the red, black and gray one. Such elegant colors. You are a brave one for driving in all that water! So glad you made it safely to the other side. I do hope the rainy season is soon to be over. Enjoy all of your new toys and getting some nice quiet time to read all of those magazines.
Thank you, indeed the new yarn is super soft. It is one of our local yarns, and I absolutely love it.
Can not wait to get some reading time, we have some holidays coming in April, which means long weekends. Will be good to take a break and relax.
Rainy season will probably be over soon. But we needed the water, so we are still happy, floods or not. 🙂
Enjoy your week and happy stitching.
That looks like a lot of water for a low car. Well done on making it through and getting to the expo. Sounds like you had a fab time and I’m sure all the better for being with your sister. Your ceramics are gorgeous and I’m loving that red/grey/black yarn 🙂
Lol. Yes, it was a lot of water. 🙂 we need the rain so we are happy.
Had a great weekend and loved the time with my sister. The yarn is super soft, and I hope to get it started sooner than later. 🙂
It would better if they spread the rain out it bit though 😉 Look forward to seeing what you knit with the yarn 🙂
Indeed, but the rains love to fall here, in summer we get as much as possible, and sometimes more.
ps: took yarn out last night for a shawl. Not these new ones, but a blue I had for a while now. Time to start looking at winter woolies. 🙂
We’ve definitely got more on the rain side at the moment – the rivers are so high. Enjoy starting your shawl.
Seems that you had a truly great time shopping in nice company 🙂 And you found a lot of lovely things for crafting through the autumn & winter!
I’m also looking forward to seeing the fur becoming a bear.
A very productive weekend too, with all those cute bags now nearly ready for use!
Have a lovely continuation into the week – the next weekend will be here soon!
Thank you so much. Yes indeed, it was a great day shopping, and a lovely weekend.
I enjoyed the sewing although I am not good and my best sewing is probably as long as its a pretty straight line I am capable. 🙂
You have a great week to. Nice hearing from you.
Oh my goodness what a great haul!!!
Thanks, I had a good time. 🙂
