I took a break on Sunday, and decided to relax and watch the Airshow planes pass my house.  Annually there is a lovely Airshow at the local (very small) airport just up the road from my home.  They literally fly by my home, and I can watch them from the windows, and of course, hear the noise of the Fighter Jets as they come swooping by.

I took out a little embroidery I bought recently, to make a small cushion for the house.  It was a great break.  I did not get as far as I had hoped, but it was really a pleasant break. I had to stop when the sun was starting to set, as the light was no longer good enough, and the electric lights are just not the same when it comes to doing some fine work.

My daughters second sock is progressing so much faster that the first one.  I think I am now getting the hang of the two yarns.  I would think that by the weekend I would have turned the heel even.

In2Crafts Expo

Last month I had the really fun opportunity to attend the In2Crafts Expo at Emperors Palace in Kempton Park.

Even though yarn suppliers were few at the Expo, I met the awesome Dana Biddle from Colourspun (www.colourspun.com)

I loved having a nice long chat with her about her yarns and colours, and bought yarns that I would not normally have bought.  I bought yarns in Cotton, whereas I normally buy wool, silk, alpaca, etc.  I am excited to knit with the cottons in summer, as I believe they will be great and comfy without being to warm.

I got the cutest buttons and goodies as well.  I simply could not resist the giraffes and snowmen.  Not to mention this stunning paper, at the most reasonable prices.  They are perfect for those special notes you want to write to a friend or swap buddy when you prepare a package with gifts and goodies.

And since I have been tempted and wanting to do sewing and embroidery, which is on my list for summer crafting, I bought the supplies for a cute little cushion to make.

And like most crafters, I could not resist a book or two.  These are unusual, and will go a long way towards expanding my “need to be busy”

pixel stitch, socks

Finally finished the Pixel sock I was working on for my daughter. And this is only sock one.

Its a lot harder knitting socks using 2 colours.  I will now start on sock two.

I can not believe myself how slow I was at this.  🙂  I should get better at it as I practice.

Winter in Johannesburg

Today my post is a bit non craft related.

It has been winter here, and since our winters are not as severe in Johannesburg as many other places, we still had the time to go out and enjoy the countryside every now and again.

Everything seems a bit brown and gray, but the days were lovely and cosy with lots of sunshine.

These are pictures from our June (Mid winter just about) trip to one of my favourite places around here, Hartbeespoort Dam. It was a lovely day, stunning weather, hardly a breeze, and very peaceful and quiet.

And in August we had a family breakfast at a little place about 15 minutes drive from my home, called Gillooly’s Farm.  The restaurant is called Mrs. Sippy.  It is situated right next to the water’s edge, and you can walk your dog there and even feed the ducks and geese.

Soon it will be summer again, and then everything will be warm and sunny, and so very green.

Socks update……

heelflap, pixel stitch, progress, shortrow heel, socks

After knitting the sock according to the pattern, with a very pretty heel flap, it turned out the sock was way to big in the heel and also to long for my daughters very small thin heels.

It did not fit snug and comfy at all.  So I had to undo the heel and pick up the stitches again, as it fitted with the knitted gusset.

I modified the pattern and changed to a short row heels pattern.  🙂  It know fits better and I will be knitting an inch or so into the leg part to see how it fits.

Sock update.

Keeping my fingers crossed.  This is my first Pixel Stitch sock, and I am very much learning as I go along.  🙂
